General Race Information
Q. When is the Race?
A. The Race will be held on 10.06.2018. The Race venue will open at 200P; Pre-event concert featuring The Zeros at 215P; Opening Ceremony and Survivor Parade at 330P; 5K Timed at 400P; 5K Untimed 415P; 430P 1 Mile Walk.
Q. Where is the Race?
A. The Race will be held at the Black & Veatch Campus, 11401 Lamar, Overland Park, KS (Just west of 114th & Nall in Overland Park, KS).
Q. How much is the registration fee?
A. Registration fees begin at $30/participant or $15/Kids under 18 years old (Earlybird discounts are available through May 25, 2018). Registration fees are non-refundable.
Q. Is my registration fee tax-deductible?
A. No, your registration fee helps defray the costs of producing the Race and is not considered tax-deductible. However, any amount that you choose to donate above the entry fee is tax-deductible.
Q. What is included in the registration fee?
A. You will get a Race bib with a number, a Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® t-shirt (while supplies last), and a great feeling! Plus access to Kids for the Cure, Health & Wellness EXPO, and Survivors Pavilion (if appropriate).
Q. How can I register?
A. You can register online by clicking here. You can also register offline by downloading this form (click here for the paper form) and mailing to the Race office at Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City Race for the Cure, 8900 State Line Road, #333, Leawood, KS 66206.
Q. How will I receive my Race packet including t-shirt?
A. You can pick up your Race packet including your shirt, bib, etc. at locations throughout the metro during Race week or you can opt to have it mailed to you in advance of or after Race Day for an additional fee. Packet pick up locations can be found by clicking here.
Q. How long is the Race?
A. The Race is a 5K route, which is approximately 3.1 miles. There is also a shorter route option (approximately 1 mile). You may choose to walk or run either route. If you are unable to walk or run, you can still register and join us on Race day. Come enjoy the Kids for the Cure Park, Food Truck Rally, Survivors Parade and our Pre-Event Concert featuring The Zeros! We are always looking for people to cheer on our runners and walkers.
Q. How can I become a volunteer?
A. The success of the Komen [Affiliate] Race depends heavily on the support we receive from our volunteers in the months leading up to the Race and on Race Day. There are many ways you can get involved, for more information, click here.
Q. Are pet and strollers allowed at the event?
A. Pets are prohibited from the event, but strollers are permitted.
Q. What if it rains?
A. Komen holds the right to cancel or change the date or location of the Race in its sole discretion, including in the circumstance of extreme weather. It is likely, however, that the event will happen rain or shine. After all, this is Kansas City and we can see all four seasons on the same day. Please dress accordingly. Please note: Registration fees are non-refundable.
Q. What type of food and drink will be at Race?
A. Food options include our Food Truck Row (specific truck information will be posted in Race Day Information). Many other food and drink vendors to be revealed over the next few months prior to Race.
Q. Are there activities for kids?
A. New fun for kids at Kids for the Cure inflatable park featuring giant structures designed for fun and games. Other Kids area activities are being finalized and will be added here soon!
Q. Where can participants park?
A. New parking options include more than 3,000 free spaces at the Sprint campus and an additional 1,000 free spaces at Black & Veatch (See maps & parking). Spaces are first to come, first served. Additional parking will be available and promoted accordingly. Check back soon.
Q. When is the Survivors Parade?
A. The Survivor's Parade will take place in conjunction with the Opening Ceremony at 330P. Survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer who wish to participate in the parade are asked to meet at the Survivor's Pavilion at 320P.
Q. What happens before the Race?
A. Race Day isn't just about the 5K or 1 Mile course ... it's #MoreThanRaceKC. Registered participants can enjoy the Expo and visit our vendors and grantees. Rock out to the hits of the 80s with our pre-event concert featuring The Zeros from 215P to 315P. Take advantage of Food Truck Row (before or after the event), enjoy our inflatable park for kids, games, prizes, the Survivor's Parade and much, much more!
Q. Is there a special hotel package for Race Participants?
A. Get your special Komen Kansas City Race hotel room rate for our 10.06.2018 event. Stay the night before (or the night after) Race at our official hotel. Click here for special rates or call them directly (Coming Soon)!
Q. Does the Komen Race for the Cure require fundraising?
A. You are not required to fundraise, but we do encourage all participants to fundraise above the entry fee. Just Imagine the impact - If every Race participant raises just $218 beyond their registration fee, we would bring in an additional $2.1 million to support local screening, treatment, and educational programs in our community!
Q. Are patients, survivors, and those living with metastatic breast cancer expected to fundraise?
A. Just like our other participants, those who’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer have an opportunity to earn fundraising recognition items for their efforts! Many of our highest individual fundraisers are survivors and those affected by metastatic disease.
Q. Does the money raised stay right here in our community?
A. Yes! Up to seventy-five percent (75%) of the net income from the Race stays right here in our community to fund vital breast cancer health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs. The remaining twenty-five percent (25%) supports Komen’s national research and training grants program. Komen Kansas City has reinvested more than $21 million in the fight against breast cancer since it's inception in 1994.
Q. Where do I send donations?
A. On Race Day: go to the giant Pink Piggy Bank in the Expo to drop off your Race donations. Or mail to Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City Race for the Cure, 8900 State Line Road, #333, Leawood, KS 66206. Q. How long do I have to collect and turn in donations to qualify for a fundraising recognition reward?
A. The Fundraising deadline for the Recognition Program is 4 weeks after the event day (11/5/2018). Donations to your fundraising page made up to 4 weeks after the event qualify you for one of our recognition items. Fundraising Rewards are not cumulative. Fundraisers may select one item at or below the level achieved (in the case of Bonus Bucks you will receive the highest level). Participants must be registered to receive a recognition gift. Redemption certificates must be redeemed within 4 weeks.
Q. How do I pick up my fundraising recognition gifts?
A. Approximately 6 weeks after your event, certificates to redeem your recognition item will be emailed from email@example.com (or firstname.lastname@example.org). Once you select your fundraising thank you gift, it will be shipped to you. Susan G. Komen reserves the right to substitute an item of equal or greater value. Dick's Sporting Goods Bonus Bucks will be mailed to you approximately 6 weeks after Race as well.

Q. How do I form a Team?
A. To be considered an official Team, you will need 10 or more registered members by the morning of the Race. You can form a Team or join a team online. For more information, contact us at 816.842.4444 or email@example.com.
Q. What are the benefits of a Team?
A. Forming or joining a Team multiplies the fun you will have on Race Day. You can create a Team to celebrate a survivor or honor someone you have lost. You can also create a corporate Team and get your entire company involved. To learn more check out the Rewards page.
Q. Do Teams have to fundraise?
A. Teams are not required to fundraise but we strongly encourage fundraising. Fundraising as a Team can be fun. Click here to get a list of fundraising events your Team can do.
Q. One of my Team members registered as an individual when they meant to join my Team. How do they correct this?
A. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to get this corrected.
Q. Can donations made to a Team be split or shared among Team members?
A. We are unable to split or transfer donations between individual and Team accounts.
Q. Will there be an area for my Team to meet-up on Race day?
A. Teams for the Cure Park is the best place for Teams to gather. Make a space reservation by emailing email@example.com. Spaces are first to come; first served.
