This year, I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure because I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer. This is an organization and a cause that is near and dear to my heart due to the battles fought by myself, my mom, and thousands of other women against this disease. In July 2009, I was diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer and celebrated my 31st birthday with a lumpectomy rather then a couple of drinks. It was the best birthday present I could have given myself...the gift of life. In October 2009, I started a 6-month regiment of chemotherapy treatments followed by 3 months of radiation and I'm proud to say that I'll celebrate my 7th anniversary cancer-free this year.
The one thing that I can look back on and appreciate about my journey is how much more information and acceptance existed for me and what I was going through compared to thousands of women that came before me. That is greatly attributable to the work of Komen and other such organizations and the impacts that they have made to research, early detection and diagnosis, and treatments over the years.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts. You can donate online with your credit card by clicking the button above my fundraising thermometer. Or you can support by signing up for the walk and walking with myself and thousands of our "closest" friends who have the same passion for this organization and its mission and have been impacted through family, friends, and acquaintances that have had to fight this battle or have had loved ones fight this battle!
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.
Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That’s our promise. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
